Fuel Cost Calculator
business calculator
How It Works
The calculator divides the trip distance by your vehicle's fuel efficiency to estimate the gallons one trip burns, then multiplies that by the price per gallon to get the cost per trip. Multiplying by the number of trips scales it up for a commute or a recurring journey, and it also reports total fuel used. For an accurate result, use your real-world mileage — which is usually lower than the sticker figure, especially in city driving.
Formula
Fuel Used = Distance ÷ MPG Cost = Fuel Used × Price per Gallon
Examples
300 mile trip, 30 mpg, $3.50/gal
$35 in fuel for the trip.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I calculate fuel cost for a trip?
Divide the trip distance by your vehicle's miles per gallon to find gallons used, then multiply by the price per gallon. For 300 miles at 30 mpg and $3.50/gal: (300÷30) × $3.50 = $35.
How can I reduce fuel costs?
Maintain steady speeds, keep tires properly inflated, remove excess weight, avoid idling, and combine errands. Carpooling and route planning also cut costs significantly.
