Hours Calculator
date calculator
How It Works
The calculator converts your start and end times into minutes, subtracts one from the other, and removes any unpaid break to find the time actually worked. If the end time is earlier than the start it assumes the shift ran past midnight and adds a full day so overnight shifts come out right. It then presents the result both as hours and minutes and as a decimal — the format payroll systems use — and multiplies the decimal hours by your rate to estimate pay.
Formula
Hours = (End − Start − Break) ÷ 60 Pay = Decimal Hours × Hourly Rate
Examples
09:00 to 17:30, 30 min break
8 hours of work time.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I calculate hours worked?
Subtract the start time from the end time, then subtract any unpaid breaks. Enter times in 24-hour HH:MM format. For example, 09:00 to 17:30 with a 30-minute break is 8 hours.
Does this work for overnight shifts?
Yes. If the end time is earlier than the start time (e.g., 22:00 to 06:00), the calculator assumes the shift crosses midnight and adds 24 hours automatically.
