How It Works

In add-tax mode the calculator multiplies the price by the tax rate and adds the result to give the total you will pay at the register. In remove-tax mode it works in reverse, dividing the total by one plus the rate to recover the original pre-tax price and reveal how much of the total was tax. The reverse calculation is handy for expense reports and bookkeeping, where you often have a receipt total but need the tax broken out.

Formula

Tax = Price × (Rate ÷ 100)
Total = Price + Tax
Reverse: Net = Total ÷ (1 + Rate)
